26 new laws sponsored by Rep. Romero expected to improve the lives of Filipinos

Twenty-six newly passed laws which 1Pacman Partylist Representative Mikee Romero pushed and co-sponsored are expected to improve the lives of ordinary Filipinos.

Job creation is one of the top priorities of Rep. Michael “Mikee” L. Romero.

“We will continue to write more laws that will change and better the lives of every Filipino,” Romero said.

Romero said the bills he proposed in Congress which became important laws of the land aim to improve different sectors such as education, housing, agriculture, telecommunication, healthcare, finance, sports, environment and energy.

He said among the segments of society that will benefit from the pieces of legislation backed by 1Pacman are students, poor Filipinos, senior citizens, cancer patients, persons with disability, informal settlers, employees, farmers, athletes, taxpayers, overseas Filipino workers, Iglesia ni Cristo religious group, Muslim Filipinos, and small entrepreneurs.

Romero is one of the principal authors of Republic Act No. 10931 or the Free Tuition for State Universities and Colleges Law; RA 10969 which provides free irrigation services to farmers; RA 10929 which provides free Wi-Fi Internet in public areas; RA 11223 or the Universal Healthcare Act; and RA 11228 or the law mandating free Philhealth coverage to PWDs.

He is also one of the sponsors of RA 11199 which expands the Social Security System coverage; RA 11211 or the New Bangko Sentral nang Pilipinas Act of 2018; RA 11203 or the Rice Tariffication law; RA 11214 or the Philippine Sports Training Center Act; and RA 11181 which establishes the Lanao del Norte Sports Training Center.

Romero also pushed for RA 11213 or the Tax and Estate Amnesty Act of 2018; RA 11202 which creates the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development; RA 11215 or the National Integrated Cancer Control Program; RA 11219 which extends the franchise of the Iglesia Ni Cristo religious group; and RA 11039 which institutionalizes the Electric Cooperatives Emergency and Resiliency Fund.

Other laws which Romero helped pen are RA 10928 which extends the validity of Philippine passports by 10 years; RA 10930 which extends Philippine drivers license validity to five years; RA 10963 which amends the Bureau of Internal Revenues Code; RA 11038 which ensures the preservation and management of protected areas; and RA 11014 or the celebration of the First Philippine Republic Day on January 23.

Romero is also one of the proponents of RA 11054 or the Bangsamoro Basic Law; RA 10923 which postponed the October 2016 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections; RA 11323 or the Revised Corporation Code of the Philippines; RA 11164 which increased the monthly pension of senior citizens and RA 11507 or the Financial Exclusion Act.
